Our county population is 138,898 and is composed of 53,464 households. Salisbury, the largest city in Rowan County, is also the county seat with a population of 34,199. There are approximately 340,000 people within a 20-mile radius of downtown Salisbury. 21,260 residents live in the nine additional municipalities located in Rowan County and 88,000 live in unincorporated areas of the county.

Rowan County's average age is 39 years. The racial make-up of the population is 76.5% Caucasian and 16.2% African American with about 8.4% of Hispanic origin. Educational attainment continues a positive trend with the percent of high school graduates and the share of residents with an associates or bachelor's degree increasing.
